Civil 2 ( Maintenance )

The Civil Division carries out civil and structural work which include renovation work, improvement and repair work, wood and concrete works and the maintenance of sanitary systems and plumbing, sewage, roofs, ceilings, flooring, roads and pedestrian passages, car parks, drains and ditches, office equipment, fencing and the like for all buildings and infrastructures in campus, staff quarter areas, KL City Campus (KLCC), residential colleges inside and outside the campus.

Electrical

The electrical power supply for the whole of University of Malaya is under the process of upgrading and supply re-strengthening where interruptions of power supply can be minimized. There are a few phases that need to be implemented for the purpose.

Phase 1 involves replacing old and obsolete electrical gears. A large percentage of Phase I is completed. Cost incurred was estimated to be RM 2.5 million. Meanwhile, Phase II will be implemented during the 9th Malaysia Plan whereby the works planned involves replacing old cables to cables of higher quality. The estimated cost for the task is RM 15M and will be start begining of July 2008 and finish at Mac 2008

Since 2005, obsolete and dangerous switch gears have also been replaced such as at Bangunan Institut Pengajian Siswazah, the Main Library Building, Medical Faculty, Physics Department, Language Faculty, Built Environment Faculty, the 8th College, the Palapes Building and the Arts and Social Science Faculty and Faculty of Information Technology.

Mechanical

Te ensure the safety and comfort of students, the University staff and end users, many mechanical services systems have been upgraded in keeping them being more user friendly. The lists of upgrades are:

  • Centralized Air condition System, Split Air condition System etc
  • Cold Room and Clean Room System which have been used widely in research
  • Water Cooler System
  • Domestic Water Pump System and Sewerage System
  • Passenger and Service Lift System, and Dumb-waiters
  • LPG System and etc.
For the year 2006, the department plans to continue with the tasks in stages and also to study the energy saving system.

Asset Management

This division is responsible for managing the lease / rental of the university’s property, creating and managing the university’s asset and space inventory using Integrated Property Management System, managing the replacement of the condemned asset / inventory for the whole University.
