Responsible landscaping

JHB supports Universiti Malaya in its efforts toward a sustainable campus.

Plants in our landscapes and gardens are meticulously selected to ensure they are safe and pose no threat to university property as well as provide a comfortable shade to the campus community.

Most importantly, they are environmentally friendly, drought-resistant, and help conserve water.

Mulching greatly benefits gardens and landscapes, therefore we have adopted this method specifically to decrease moisture evaporation and discourage weed growth in the botanical gardens.

Chamaerops humilis (European Fan Palm)

Dracaena Cochinchinensis (Malaysian Dracaena)

UM uses dried leaves (abundant within campus) as mulch.
